  • Black tempera or acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Clothespin (not one with a spring)
  • Black construction paper
  • Pencil or marker
  • Child's blunt-tip safety scissors
  • Glue
  • Red tempera or acrylic paint (optional)
  • String

  • Paint the clothespin black and allow it to dry.
  • Fold the paper in half so the short edges meet and draw the outline of a bat wing, starting and ending the outline at the fold.
  • Cut out the wings, but don’t cut the fold.
  • Unfold the wings, squeeze glue along the outside fold, then press the wings onto the clothespin.
  • If you like, add two dots of red paint to the clothespin for eyes.
  • Tie a string to the bat and hang it from the ceiling.
