Number Cards

Itamp;rsquo;s back to school time, when your grandchild will be learning new concepts or brushing up on ones that were introduced last year. Help your grandchild review at home with this craft idea that reinforces a number of important math skills: number recognition, counting and matching. Itamp;rsquo;s a cooperative activity that gets her involved in the learning process from the startamp;hellip; and the more you can make her part of the process, the more learning will amp;ldquo;stickamp;rdquo;!

  • 22 small index cards
  • Black marker
  • Stickers or dot stickers

  • Help your grandchild write the numbers from 0 to 10 on small index cards, writing one number in the centre of each of two index cards.
  • If you like, also write the words for each number: zero, one, two, and so on.
  • Show him/her how to put one sticker on the index cards featuring the number 1, two stickers on the cards with the number 2, and so on.
  • Place the cards face up and have your grandchild match all the pairs.
  • Place the cards face down and play a memory game, taking turns turning over one card then trying to turn over the matching one.
  • If you make a match, you keep the pair.
  • If not, turn the cards face down for the next playeramp;rsquo;s turn.
  • The player with the most pairs wins the game.
